EARTH
These classes focus on grounding the body through rooting down into the Earth, cultivating physical and emotional stability. We are harnessing the weight of gravity through playing with balance and finding a somatic curiosity in how we connect with the ground beneath us. Before we move out into the world we must establish this deep bond between body and Earth, feeling into the flesh and bones of ourselves, becoming an Earth Body in motion. These practices are deeply nourishing moving at a slower pace, providing more space for an embodied awareness with observation-rich sequencing. We keep close to ground and incorporate breathwork like three-part yogic breath which you can take off the mat into your daily life. More suitable to an evening practice, closing off the day and preparing you for a nourishing night of sleep.
WATER
These practices focus on fluidity and adaptability as well as emotional release. We incorporate more continuous flows where we are able to develop a rhythmic bodily connection which can help release tensions and create space in the body. These flows have layered creative sequencing which can feel exciting and sometimes challenging, inviting you to cultivate curiosity through somatic movement. Our sacral centre is home to our creativity so we work heavily with this part of the body which can help shift emotions and clarify feelings. Water is an extremely important symbol during pregnancy and birth, in surrendering the body and mind to the flow and giving life like water. These cleansing practices which are suitable for anytime of day are designed to purify the body, using yoga and breathwork to filter out elements which are no longer required.
FIRE
These practices focus on physical and mental transformation incorporating more challenging Vinyasa elements like sun salutations, inversions, arm balancing, deep twists, fire breath, and strength building. These are suitable for a morning practice as the body heats up quickly, and allow us to move with passion off the mat into the day as life pulses through us. Like an orb of sunshine, once our solar plexus is activated, it allows us to channel the trajectory of our body and mind outwards towards others and throw the rays of our self-confidence into the world. Fire is one of the most powerful elements and when we tap into this we can feel vitally alive and move with complete abundance.
AIR
These practices focus on finding a lightness and expansion of the body, with a strong integration of breathwork and meditation. This allows you to take your practice to a new level which moves past just the pose, allowing us to spend more time in the in-between-space of holding poses, staying with the breath, somatic inquiry, or philosophical reflection. Flows are designed to unlock the heart chakra, often focusing on shoulder opening and back bending which strengthen our connection to heart through intentional awareness and sensory perception. These practices will help you connect the upper and lower parts of the body in arriving at wholeness and taking that self love out into the world in order to cultivate connection and trust.
Hi, I'm Alex,
I am a trauma-informed yoga teacher and somatic practitioner based in London.
For over 15 years, I've explored how movement, breath and mindfulness can help us feel safer, calmer and more at home in our bodies.
My teaching blends yoga, somatic practice and an understanding of the nervous system to create spaces where every body is welcomed with compassion, curiosity and care.
